Redesain Unit Geriatri RSJ Prof. Dr. Soerojo Magelang dengan Pendekatan Milieu Therapy

Masalah kesehatan jiwa belum menjadi hal yang diperhatikan di Indonesia. Tidak terkecuali pasien kejiwaan lanjut usia atau geriatri. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan sedikitnya tenaga profesional yang memahami penanganan untuk pasien kejiwaan lanjut usia. Hanya sedikit rumah sakit jiwa yang menyediakan layanan untuk pasien geriatri. Salah satunya adalah Rumah Sakit Jiwa Dr Soerojo, salah satu rumah sakit jiwa paling tua di Indonesia. Rumah sakit ini terkenal sebagai salah satu rumah sakit jiwa terbesar dan terbaik di Indonesia. Meski demikian, unit geriatri RSJ Dr Soerojo masih membutuhkan banyak perbaikan. Terdapat kekurangan baik segi kualitas lingkungan maupun kelengkapan fasilitas. Untuk itu, diperlukan redesain sebagai solusi permasalahan tersebut. Metoda yang digunakan dalam redesain unit geriatri ini melalui empat tahapan yaitu observasi, studi pustaka, wawancara dan mempelajari studi kasus. Pendekatan yang tepat untuk desain ini adalah milieu therapy, yaitu proses manipulasi lingkungan agar menjadi lingkungan yang menyembuhkan. Dalam proses penyusunannya penulis menemukan tiga permasalahan utama yang menjadi dasar dari perancangan ini yaitu : 1) Bagaimana strategi pengembangan unit geriatri dalam batasan konteks redesain, 2) Bagaimana penerapan milieu therapy dalam batasan konteks redesain, 3) Bagaimana penerapan milieu therapy dalam optimalisasi fungsi unti geriatri. Konsep yang digunakan dalam perancangan ini adalah "Rumah Untuk Semua" yang mengacu pada pendekatan milieu therapy. Tujuan utamanya adalah memanipulasi lingkungan sehingga terasa seperti rumah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh suasana rumah adalah bentuk lingkungan yang tepat untuk penyembuhan pasien kejiwaan lanjut usia. Konsep dimunculkan dalam berbagai aspek, mulai dari pembagian zonasi pada desain hingga desain dan penataan interior maupun lansekap.

Mental health problems are not yet a concern in Indonesia. No exception with elderly or geriatric psychiatric patients. This is evidenced by the lack of professionals who understand the handling of elderly psychiatric patients. Only a few asylums provide services for geriatric patients. One of them is Dr. Soerojo Mental Hospital, one of the oldest mental hospitals in Indonesia. This hospital known as the biggest and one of the best asylum in Indonesia. Nonetheless, the geriatric unit of Dr. Soerojo Mental Hospital still needs a lot of improvement. There are deficiencies both in terms of environmental quality and completeness of the facility. For this reason, redesign is needed as a solution to the problem. The method used in the redesign of the geriatric unit is through four stages : observation, literature study, interview and case study. The right approach for this design is milieu therapy, which is the process of manipulating the environment to become a healing environment. In the preparation process the authors found three main problems that became the basis of this design: 1) How the geriatric unit development strategy within the context of redesign, 2) How to apply milieu therapy in the context of redesign, 3) How to apply milieu therapy in optimizing the function of the geriatric unit . The concept used in this design is "Home for All" which refers to the milieu therapy approach. The ultimate goal is to manipulate the environment so that it feels like home. This is caused by the atmosphere of the house is a form of the right environment for healing elderly psychiatric patients. Concepts are raised in various aspects, from zoning in design to interior and landscape design and arrangement.
