A computational studied using by Density Functional Theory DFT on the influence of thin film thickness on the electronic properties non-polar wurtzite structure ZnO and GaN with free electron analysis and symmetry group theory. The Rashba spin splitting phenomenon was identified in the case of bulk and surface thin film non-polar in the valence band maximum VBM around the gamma point. The results showed that the change in symmetry group due to surface effects. The symmetry group changes from C6v polar direction to Cs non polar direction where only one mirror symmetry on the x-axis. Through symmetry group analysis showed that the structure of wurtzite ZnO and GaN is anisotropic in which one Rashba parameter in alpha 2 gamma x direction and three parameters alpha 1, alpha 2, dan alpha 3 in gamma y. Results of computational calculations and analysis through symmetry group theory are consistent. The results of the study confirmed that the phenomenon of Rashba spin splitting due to surface effect non polar makes the wurtzite structure promising as a optoelectronic devices.
