Microalgae contains many bioactive compounds that can be utilized for commercial use including applications in aquaculture feed, pharmaceutical use, and biofuel production. The main challenge lies in harvesting microalgae because the process requires high operational costs. In flocculation, the cells coagulate and larger particles are produced with a higher settling velocity due to the higher density of the flocs. Biofloculation is a microalgae harvesting technique using living things. The selection of the right coagulant plays an important role in achieving efficient harvesting of microalgae biomass. In this study microalgae Chlorella sp. (non-flocculating microalgae) was harvested using Ankistrodesmus sp. (flocculating microalgae) with three variation ratios which were 1:0.25, 1:0.5, and 1:1 (v/v) to determine the value of sedimentation rate (% recovery). Ankistrodesmus sp. as a bio-flocculant was able to accelerate the deposition process of Chlorella sp. at the largest ratio of 1:1 (v/v) as indicated by an increase in sedimentation rate of Chlorella sp. from 23.23% to 47.89%. The highest dry weight was in the ratio of 1:1 (v/v) of 10.33 mg/ml. The highest lipid content was in the ratio of 1:1 (v/v), which was 0.49 mg/ml, the highest carbohydrate content was in the ratio of 1:1 (v/v) of 3.1 mg/ml, and the highest protein content in the ratio 1:1 (v/v) of 5,10 mg/ml. Addition of Ankistrodesmus sp. (flocculating microalgae) increased sedimentation rate, dry weight, the content of lipids, carbohydrates, and protein in the harvesting of Chlorella sp.
