Determinan Nilai Mahar pada Masyarakat Muslim di Indonesia

Studi mengenai mahar pada konteks masyarakat muslim merupakan hal yang penting, namun sayangnya diabaikan oleh mayoritas peneliti. Studi ini penting karena kebiasaan memberikan nilai mahar yang tinggi masih terjadi dan akan berdampak negatif terhadap pelaksanaan pernikahan, keharmonisan rumah tangga pasca-pernikahan dan kestabilan ekonomi. Nilai mahar yang tinggi disebabkan oleh tidak adanya pembatasan nilai mahar pada Alquran atau Hadist. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi nilai mahar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian empiris dengan model regresi Ordinary Least Square. Data bersumber dari Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS). Sebanyak 909 pasangan menikah dianalisis untuk membuktikan faktorfaktor yang mempengaruhi nilai mahar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aset dan pendidikan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap nilai mahar. Beberapa variabel lain menunjukkan hasil yang signifikan namun tidak robust antara lain pendapatan pengantin pria, status sosial keluarga dan suku.

The study of mahr in the context of Muslim society is important, but unfortunately it is ignored by the majority of researchers. This study is important because the practice of giving a high value of mahr will have a negative impact on the marriage, post-marriage household harmony and economic stability. The high value of mahr is due to the absence of mahr value restrictions on the Quran or hadith. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that affect the value of mahr. This study is empirical research using the Ordinary Least Square. Data sourced from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS). A total of 909 married couples were analyzed to prove the factors that affect the value of mahr. The results showed that assets and education had a positive and significant effect on the value of mahr. Several other variables show significant but not robust, including groom income, family social status, and ethnicity.
