Revealing the Theme of John Keats' Ode to a Nightingale Through the Use of Allusions

Penelitian ini menganalisis tema puisi John Keats, Ode to a Nightingale. Fokus penelitian ini adalah kontribusi dari alusio dalam mengungkap tema puisi tersebut. Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan. Yang pertama adalah mengidentifikasi alusio yang ditemukan dalam puisi itu dan kemana mereka mengacu. Yang kedua adalah menganalisa alusio yang ditemukan untuk menyampaikan tema dari puisi tersebut. Dalam melakukan penelitian ini, teori ekspresif digunakan sebagai pendekatan. Pendekatan ekspresif digunakan untuk menganalisis karya berdasarkan teks itu sendiri dan latar belakang dari penyair. Peneliti menemukan 10 alusio yang membantu untuk menganalisis tema, yaitu Nightingale, Hemlock, Lethe, Dryad, Vintage, Flora, Bacchus, Hippocrene, Queen Moon and Ruth. Dari semua alusio tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa tema puisi Ode to a Nightingale adalah melarikan diri dari kenyataan yang menyakitkan.

This study analyzes the theme of John Keats poetry Ode to a Nightingale. The focus of this study is the contribution of allusions to the theme of the poem. This study has two objectives. The first is identify the allusions found in the poem and what they refer to. The second is to analyze allusions to reveal the theme of the poem. In conducting this research, expressive is used to the approach of study. Expressive approach is used to analyze the work based on the text itself and the background information of the author. The researcher found ten allusions which are helpful to understand and analyze the theme, there are Nightingale, Hemlock, Lethe, Dryad, Vintage, Flora, Bacchus, Hippocrene, Queen Moon and Ruth. From these allusions it can be concluded that the theme of the poem is escape from the painful reality.
