Auscultation is a technique of listening to the sound produced by the body using a stethoscope. Auscultation is the primary and main procedure in determining the health of the respiratory system. The use of stethoscopes is superior in terms of practicality but is very subjective because it depends on hearing, experience, and the ability to distinguish one sound pattern from the doctor. Various digital signal processing techniques were developed by researchers to overcome the weaknesses of auscultation techniques that tend to be subjective. Signal complexity is one of the signal processing methods used for lung sound analysis.. In previous studies, signal complexity was always combined with other characteristics/signal features for lung sound classification. This was done to improve accuracy. The use of many signal features did not guarantee the accuracy of the classification of lung sounds to be high. Using appropriate method, the signal complexity features can produce higher accuracy compared to the use of diverse signal features. This study focused on the development of feature extraction methods based on the calculation of signal complexity signals without requiring other characteristics for the lung sounds classification. The signal complexity signal was calculated on the multiscale process output signal to achieve the goal. The signal complexity methods used were the statistic based methods. Meanwhile, the multiscale method used is the coarse-grain procedure, wavelet transformation, empirical mode decomposition, and a new method called multidistance signal level difference (MSLD). Experimental result showed that the combination of multiscale methods and signal complexity resulted in higher accuracy compared to the use of various lung sound signal features on a single scale for lung sound classification. The accuracy of 98,99% was achieved using WPD GLDM, WPD Hjorth descriptor, WPD Renyi entropy, and MSLD Hjorth descriptor. This accuracy is influenced by the choice of decomposition level or scale selection in feature extraction.
