ZEOLIT ALAM TERMODIFIKASI SETILTRIMETILAMONIUM BROMIDA SEBAGAI ADSORBEN TOLUENA DAN BENZIL KLORIDA DALAM AIR

2017 | Skripsi | S1 KIMIAModifikasi zeolit alam Klaten dengan surfaktan setiltrimetilamonium bromida (CTAB) sebagai adsorben toluena dan benzil klorida pada sistem batch telah berhasil dilakukan. Penelitian diawali dengan aktivasi zeolit alam (ZA) menggunakan HCl 3 M sehingga terbentuk zeolit alam aktivasi (ZAA), kemudian ZAA dimodifikasi dengan surfaktan CTAB sebanyak satu kali kapasitas tukar kation (KTK) untuk membentuk Surfactant Modified Zeolite-Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (SMZ-CTAB). SMZ-CTAB dikarakterisasi dengan spektrofotometer FTIR, difraktometer sinar-X dan SEM-EDX. Pada adsorpsi toluena dan benzil klorida dipelajari pengaruh waktu kontak, variasi konsentrasi, model kinetika dan isoterm adsorpsi. Konsentrasi toluena dan benzil klorida ditentukan dengan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan KTK SMZ-CTAB (0,672 meq g-1) < ZAA (0,832 meq g-1 ) < ZA (0,928 meq g-1). Adsorpsi toluena dan benzil klorida mengikuti model isoterm adsorpsi Freundlich dengan kapasitas adsorpsi 3,90x10-2 mmol g-1 untuk adsorpsi toluena dan 8,34x10-2 mmol g-1 untuk adsorpsi benzil klorida. Variasi pengaruh adsorben menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan adsorpsi toluena dan benzil klorida oleh adsorben SMZ-CTAB > ZAA > ZA. Kinetika adsorpsi untuk toluena dan benzil klorida memenuhi model kinetika orde kedua semu Ho dengan laju adsorpsi 2,40 g mmol-1 menit-1 untuk adsorpsi toluena dan 1,11 g mmol-1 menit-1 untuk adsorpsi benzil klorida. Kapasitas adsorpsi pada saat kesetimbangan adalah 4,07x10-1 mmol g-1 untuk adsorpsi toluena dan 1,79x10-1 mmol g-1 untuk adsorpsi benzil klorida.
Modification of natural zeolite from Klaten with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as adsorbent for toluene and benzyl chloride in batch system has been conducted. The study was begun by activating natural zeolite with 3 M HCl to produce activated zeolite. Activated Zeolite was modified by CTAB surfactant at 100% cation exchange capacity (CEC) to form Surfactant Modified Zeolite-Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (SMZ-CTAB). SMZ-CTAB was characterized using FTIR spectrophotometer, XRD and SEM-EDX. In the adsorption of toluene and benzyl chloride, its contact time, concentration and adsorbent variations were studied. The experimental data were analyzed using isotherm and kinetic models. The concentrations of toluene and benzyl chloride were determined by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The result showed that CEC of SMZ-CTAB (0.672 meq g-1) < activated zeolite (0.832 meq g-1) < natural zeolite (0.928 meq g-1). Adsorption of toluene and benzyl chloride followed Freundlich isotherm adsorption model with adsorption capacities 3.90x10-2 and 8.34x10-2 mmol g-1, respectively. The Study of adsorbent variations showed that adsorption ability SMZ-CTAB > activated zeolite > natural zeolite for both adsorption toluene and benzyl chloride. Adsorption kinetics were analyzed and the linear regression coefficient was best described by pseudo-second order Ho model. The adsorption rates of toluene and benzyl chloride were 2.40 and 1.11 g mmol-1 min-1, respectively. The adsorption capacities at equilibrium for toluene and benzyl chloride were 4.07x10-1 and 1.79x10-1 mmol g-1, respectively.
