ABSTRACT Historically, Sosrowijayan Kulon area is known as prostitution practical area more less 125 years ago. The formation of Pasar Kembang prostitution complex is not the same as any other prostitution complex in other cities. Through cultural acculturation process, this practice appears and enters to each and every house of Sosrowijayan Kulon people until it has been accepted by the local people. There are some cultural values which are left behind and there are some new values that come out of the process. Coming out of the co lon ial’s sex needs by usin g local pe ople’s ho uses wh ich then spreading out to the sexual needs of tugu station labor s, eventually, this activity involves most of local people’ s ho uses. T his phen omenon is the way soc iety reflects on un ique opportunity to play with invisible hands in this liberal capitalist era. The researcher then calls Sosrowijayan area as the village of sex regarding the sexual subculture that comes with it. The local people initially rejected the way others call their area as localization since their structure of society is still exactly the same as the other village in general. Their economic activity is indeed different. Therefore, indirectly, it changes the sociocultural relationship practices. By its power, it has been able to create its ow n culture inside the existin g dominant soc iety. It conjures Marx’s thou ght abo ut breaking in the materialistic values to the building foundation of unique culture. It is based on the principle thing that culture is developed inside the society due to the material thing possessed. Marvin Harris also adds structural elements between two forming-history elements owned by Marx, which are the base and the superstructure in framing the materialistic civilization using cultural production and reproduction. He uses the concept to explain how certain culture is able to be produced and maintained. By its status as the village of sex, it covers every single sexual cultural value that grows within it. To pr ove this new cultural b irth, the researcher adopts Harris’ f ormula to frame the form of new cultural product named sexual subculture that lives within the village of sex in Pasar Kembang.
