LOMBOK TREATY DAN STRATEGI KEAMANAN KONTEMPORER AUSTRALIA

Bilateral relationships between Indonesia and Australia had already in unstable condition caused by the East Timor conflicts in the end of 1990s and the acceptance of temporary visa of 42 from 43 Indonesians origin in Papua by the Australian Government, yet to be recovered by several joint cooperation. Afterward, one of the cooperation that has been held by two countries is a comprehensive agreement in security fields, especially non-traditional security, a so called Lombok Treaty signed on November 2006 in Mataram-Lombok, Indonesia. Current security issues such as people smuggling, trafficking in persons, terrorism, maritime security, emergency cooperation, and et cetera, would be the mainly topic in this agreement. Besides, Australia also enhances relationship toward powerful countries for instance the United States nowadays and England in the past. As a good partner, Australia has got his compliments in a secured territorial and made up to focus on national issues. However, the strategy to team up with these countries couldn’t obtain enough secure in a national and regional term because of transnational crimes that is undeniable to be broaden. Compared with Indonesia, the country that is wishing to have a better infrastructure of security and military system, the United States has been the leading country in the technology development and security or military system wouldn’t burden the country’s budget much. In contrary to that, Australia is about to bring a new proposal to improve the bilateral relationship with Indonesia. This composition is aiming to outline why Australia decide to have a commitment in increasing the intensity to sign and implement joint cooperation under the procedures that have been mentioned generally in Lombok Treaty.
