Mass media always have a potency to educate people about gender egality and equality through their reports. Especially all media which are specifically intended for women. In reporting gender-related issues, mass media should have some kind of writing guidance, that assures no existance of content nor representation brings women down. That’s why gender-based journalism takes its important role. This research tries to dig up frames and constructions of domestic violence case reports published by Tabloid Mingguan Nova. Through these points, hopefully can be discovered whether Tabloid Mingguan Nova has implement the principles of gender-based journalism or not. The research uses Pan and Kosicki’s frame analysis method, plus gender-based journalism’s principles as its knives. Some conclusions can be extracted through these research. First conclusion, domestic violence cases seem to be miserable heartbreaking tragedies which are dramatically written, in order to attract and rise up readers’ sympathy. Next conclusion, news feature is being contructed as well as a drama, include its story line and antagonist-protagonist role distribution. Other conclusion, Nova hasn’t applied enough principles of gender-based journalism because it still shows some negative women representations, exposes women as sorrowful figures, and not yet reveals women empowerment as it main concern.
