PROSES KONSOLIDASI DEMOKRASI DI SERBIA PASCA SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC

ABSTRACT The objective of this thesis is to analyze Serbia’s democratic consolidation post-Milosevic regime. As we know, Milosevic was a dictator and bring war to Serbia. Political condition in Milosevic era is fully controlled by single party, which is Socialist Party of Serbia. One of the wars that make the Milosevic regime fall was Kosovo war in 1999, because of that Yugoslavia suffered massive damaged from NATO war craft. In presidential election 2000, the dictator Milosevic lost from the nationalist - liberal Vojislav Kostunica. This is the turning point for Serbia from dictatorship to democracy. To starting and strengthened democracy, Serbia needs to overcome many challenge and obstacles, such as: economic crisis, damaged infrastructures, corrupt government, and organized crime. But post – Milosevic, Serbia political condition, mainly about friction between democratic party who beat Milosevic in 2000 election. Those party can’t synchronize their views about government policy and steps that need to be taken to save Serbia out of crisis. And in the other hand, ultranationalist group still have a lot of supporters that threatened democracy if they run the government. So Serbia has complicated political condition that can we type as unconsolidated democracy.
