PENGARUH TIPE EMULSI MINYAK DALAM AIR (M/A) DAN EMULSI GANDA MINYAK DALAM AIR DALAM MINYAK (M/A/M) TERHADAP PELEPASAN ZAT WARNA PONCEAU 4R LAKE PIGMENT SERTA SIFAT FISIK EMULSINYA

Ponceau 4R lake pigment merupakan pewarna kosmetik dekoratif larut minyak. Terdapat dua macam tipe emulsi, yaitu emulsi sederhana dan emulsi ganda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pengaruh tipe emulsi minyak dalam air (M/A) dan emulsi ganda minyak dalam air dalam minyak (M/A/M) terhadap sifat fisik, stabilitas fisik, serta pelepasan zat warna ponceau 4R lake pigment. Percobaan pendahuluan dilakukan untuk menentukan formula terbaik emulsi M/A untuk nantinya diformulasikan menjadi emulsi ganda M/A/M. Pembuatan emulsi M/A menggunakan karbopol konsentrasi 0,4%, 0,6%, 0,8%, dan 1%. Dievaluasi sifat fisik (rasio pemisahan, viskositas, dan ukuran droplet) dan uji stabilitas cycling test, serta pelepasan zat warna secara in vitro menggunakan franz cell diffusion. Pembuatan emulsi ganda menggunakan dua tahap emulsifikasi dengan span 80 konsentrasi 10%, 15%, dan 20% sebagai emulgator sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formula emulsi M/A paling stabil pada konsentrasi karbopol 0,8% digunakan untuk formulasi emulsi ganda M/A/M. Hasil viskositas, rasio pemisahan, dan ukuran droplet emulsi M/A dengan emulsi ganda M/A/M berbeda bermakna antarseri formula. Formula emulsi ganda M/A/M terbaik pada konsentrasi span 80 15%. Pelepasan zat warna dilakukan pada satu formula yang memiliki sifat fisik terbaik dari masing-masing tipe emulsi, yaitu emulsi M/A konsentrasi karbopol 0,8% dengan emulsi ganda M/A/M konsentrasi span 80 15%, dan menghasilkan perbedaan bermakna dengan pelepasan lebih lambat pada emulsi ganda. Dengan demikian, emulsi ganda berpotensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi sediaan lepas lambat.

Ponceau 4R lake pigment is an oil soluble decorative cosmetic dye. There are two types of emulsions: simple emulsions and double emulsions. The objective of this study is to compare the effect of different types of oil-in-water emulsion (O/W) and oil-in-water-in-oil double emulsion (O/W/O) on its physical properties, physical stability, and dye release. The preliminary experiment was conducted to determine the best formula of O/W emulsion that later on can be formulated into O/W/O double emulsion. The preparation of O/W emulsion uses 0,4%, 0,6%, 0,8%, and 1% concentration of carbopol. Then, evaluated physical properties (separation ratio, viscosity, and droplet size) and stability test using cycling test, and then in vitro dye release using franz cell diffusion. The preparation of double emulsion using two step emulsification with 10%, 15%, and 20% span 80 of emulsion weight as secondary emulsifier. The results showed that the most stable of O/W emulsion formula consisting 0,4% carbopol, and then used for the O/W/O double emulsion formulation. The result of viscosity, separation ratio, and droplet size of O/W emulsion compared with O/W/O double emulsion differed significantly between the formulas. The best formula of O/W/O double emulsion uses concentration of span 80 15%. The release of the ponceau 4R lake pigment was carried out on one formula having the best physical properties of each emulsion type, were O/W emulsion formula consisting 0,8% carbopol and O/W/O double emulsion concentration of span 80 15%, and yielded significant differences, whereas slower release on double emulsion. Thus, the double emulsion has the potential to be further developed into a prolong release product.
