GAMBARAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN DAN PRAKTIK PADA SISWI BOARDING SCHOOL MENGENAI HIGIENE MENSTRUASI AREA URBAN DI YOGYAKARTA

Latar Belakang : Padatnya aktivitas siswi di Boarding School perlu mendapat perhatian terutama dalam penerapan kebersihan diri saat menstruasi. Proses menstruasi dapat mengakibatkan area genetalia rentan terinfeksi kuman sehingga menimbulkan penyakit saluran reproduksi. Untuk mencegah terjadinya permasalahan pada organ reproduksi maka perlu memperhatikan higiene menstruasi. Tujuan Penelitian : Mengetahui gambaran tingkat pengetahuan dan praktik pada siswi Boarding School mengenai Higiene Menstruasi Area Urban di Yogyakarta Metode Penelitian : Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret 2016 hingga Februari 2017. Populasi penelitian adalah siswi di boarding school di salah satu MTs Kota Yogyakarta dengan besar sampel 124 siswi. Pengambilan data menggunakan kuesioner. Analisa data berupa deskriptif statistik. Hasil : Secara umum responden memiliki pengetahuan yang tidak tepat mengenai hormon yang mempengaruhi menstruasi (25,4%), periode menstruasi (36,3%), jenis pembalut (74,2%), waktu penggantian celana dalam (36,3%), dan pembatasan aktivitas saat menstruasi (25,8%). Sebagian besar responden menjalankan praktik yang kurang tepat terkait arah membersihkan area genital (45,2), frekuensi penggantian pembalut (39,7%), pemilihan wadah untuk membuang pembalut (95,9%), dan tempat menjemur celana dalam (19,4%). Kesimpulan : Sebagian besar responden memiliki pengetahuan yang tepat terkait higiene menstruasi, akan tetapi ada yang perlu ditingkatkan yaitu mengenai hormon yang mempengaruhi proses menstruasi, periode menstruasi, jenis pembalut, waktu penggantian celana dalam, dan pembatasan aktivitas saat menstruasi. Mayoritas siswi menjalankan praktik higiene menstruasi secara tepat, akan tetapi ada yang perlu ditingkatkan yaitu terkait arah membersihkan area genital, frekuensi penggantian pembalut, pemilihan wadah untuk membuang pembalut, dan tempat menjemur celana dalam.

Research Background: The density of students’ activities in Boarding School needs to get care, especially in the practice of personal hygiene during menstruation. Menstruation process can lead to germs infection of the genital area and it can cause disease to the reproductive tract. Therefore, to prevent the occurrence of problems in the reproductive organs, it is important to pay attention to menstrual hygiene. Research Objectives: To identify the account of the Boarding School students’ level of knowledge and practice toward Menstrual Hygiene of Urban Area in Yogyakarta. Research Method: This study was a quantitative descriptive used cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted in March 2016 until February 2017. The population of the research was female students of MTs Mu'allimat Boarding School Yogyakarta; the amount of the sample was 124 female students. Questionnaire was used as the data collection technique. Data analyzed was used statistic descriptive. Results: In general, the respondents have inaccurate knowledge about: hormones that affect menstruation (25.4%), menstrual period (36.3%), type of pads (74.2%), changeover time of underwear (36.3%), and activity limitation during menstruation (25.8%). The majority of respondents performed inappropriate practices regarding to: the direction of cleansing the genital area (45.2), the frequency of replacement of the pads (39.7%), the selection of material for disposing the pads (95.9%), and choosing right places to dry the underwear (19.4 %). Conclusion: Most of the respondents have correct knowledge regarding to menstrual hygiene, but there is a need to improve the knowledge of hormones that affect menstruation, menstruation periods, type of pads, panty replacement times, and limitations on menstrual activity. The majority of the students practice menstrual hygiene correctly, but there is a need to improve the direction of clearing the genital area, the frequency of pads replacement, the selection of containers for disposing the pads, and the choosing right places to dry the underwear.
