Pohon durian dianggap sakral oleh masyarakat Desa Nek Sawak, mereka memiliki upacara dan ritual khusus untuk menghormati pohon durian. Masuknya industri sawit dan agama Kristen membuat tafsir masyarakat terhadap pohon durian berubah. Penelitian dilakukan di Dusun Nek Sawak, Desa Melawi Makmur, Kecamatan Meliau, Kabupaten Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat. Tujuan penulisan ini untuk melihat bagaimana perubahan tafsir masyarakat terhadap pohon durian saat sebelum dan setelah industri sawit masuk. Kemudian apakah penanaman kembali pohon durian yang sedang dilakukan oleh masyarakat Nek Sawak akan mengembalikan fungsi pohon durian yang berubah seiring dengan masuknya industri sawit dan agama Kristen. Masyarakat Desa Nek Sawak percaya bahwa pohon durian membawa kesejahteraan bagi mereka. Banyaknya industri kelapa sawit yang masuk dan menawarkan penghasilan yang lebih tinggi dibanding berladang membuat masyarakat memilih untuk menjadi petani sawit. Kebun karet dan ladang mulai diratakan dan diganti dengan kebun sawit. Dibandingkan dengan pohon karet yang memiliki nilai ekonomi, pohon durian lebih dipertahankan oleh masyarakat Desa Nek Sawak karena memiliki fungsi sebagai simbol kekerabatan. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada tahun 2012 dengan menggunakan metode observasi dan wawancara ditemukan bahwa perubahan mata dari peladang menjadi petani sawit mengubah tafsir mereka terhadap pohon durian dari segi moral, politik, ekonomi, dan kekerabatan. Dengan adaya usaha penanaman kembali pohon durian memang dapat mempertahankan fungsi pohon durian sebagai simbol kekerabatan. Akan tetapi dengan masuknya agama Kristen menghilangkan sifat sakralnya karena sudah tidak lagi menimbulkan rasa hormat, takut, dan pemujaan bagi masyarakat Desa Nek Sawak.

Durian tree is considered sacred by villagers from Nek Sawak, they have special ceremonies and rituals to honor the durian tree. The entry of the oil industry and the Christians makes the interpretation changes durian tree. The study was conducted at the Nek Sawak, Melawi Desa Makmur, District Meliau, Sanggau District, West Kalimantan. The purpose of this paper to see how it changes the interpretation of the durian tree before and after the palm oil industry entered. Then, when the durian tree replanting is being done by the community Nek Sawak will return durian trees function that change with the entry of the oil industry and the Christians. Desa people in Nek Sawak believe that durian trees bring prosperity to them. The amount of the oil palm industry in and offered a higher income than farming makes people choose to become smallholders. Rubber gardens and fields began to be leveled and replaced with oil palm plantations. Compared with rubber trees that have economic value, durian tree is maintained by the villagers of Nek Sawak because it has a function as a symbol of kinship. This research was conducted in 2012. Using the method of observation and interviews have found that changes in the livelihood from farming into oil palm farmers to change their interpretation of the durian trees in terms of moral, political, economic, and kinship. With the durian tree replanting able to maintain the function of the durian tree as a symbol of kinship. However, with the arrival of Christianity eliminates the sacred nature because it is no longer respected, fear, and worship for the people Desa in Nek Sawak.
