Background: Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most common cause of global deaths. In 2008, 7.3 million of these deaths were caused by coronary artery diseases (CADs). Among CADs, ST-elevation myocardial infarction has the worst condition with total block of vessel thus needs immediate management. Two main option is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and fibrinolysis. In fact, the number of hospital in Indonesia that has PCI is limited thus fibrinolisys remains the only option. As plasma glucose, Blood Urea Nitrogen and sodium are the main component of osmolality, it is recommended to investigate the association between plasma osmolality and fibrinolysis outcome to find the predictor of fibrinolysis failure. Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the association between plasma osmolality and fibrinolysis outcome in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Method: It is an observational study using cross-sectional design. This study is a part of previous study conducted in Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine of Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat Dr. Sardjito. Result: The chi- square analysis shows the association between plasma osmolality and fibrinolysis outcome is not significant with p-value 0.633. Conclusion: There is no association between plasma osmolality and fibrinolysis outcome in patients with ST- elevation myocardial infarction.
