Menganalisa Idiom Dalam Film Pirates of the Caribbean – the Dead Man’s Chest Ke Dalam Kategori Syntax

This paper identifies the syntactical categorization, semantic and pragmatic meaning of English idioms in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean – the Dead Man’s Chest. The result shows from 47 idioms found, 38 idioms were identified as clause pattern, 1 as possessive clause pattern, and 8 as phrase. They were categorized into 3 sections based on the idiom’s patterns, and then analyzed of their semantic and pragmatic meaning. The result shows that the script writer used idioms to build a language bridge among pirates who spoke different dialects and experienced different backgrounds. Most of the idioms are related to pirate objects and terms, based upon the semantic and pragmatic meaning.
