The Pattern of air traffic movement in Adi Sutjipto Airport

ABSTRACT : AdiSutjipto airport is the main airport inYogyakarta, which is one of the touristic destinations in Indonesia and situated in civil passenger enclaves at defense airfields.The pattern of air traffic movement in this airport becomesa consideration to meet the objectives of air traffic management and services. The aim of thisthesis is to develop patterns of air traffic movement in AdiSutjipto airport and predict its number based on the historical data of air traffic movement. WEKA data mining is introduced to do the predicting task. Two models are proposed in order to obtain predicted numbers of air traffic movements controlled by aerodrome control units and approach control units.The proposed models developed by WEKA data mining are tested and the pattern from the models is compared to the actual ones. The analysis is conducted based on the observation of comparison between the result of the model and the actual ones. The pattern of the air traffic movement in AdiSutjipto airport shows complexities in the structure of movement. It is due to twofactors, namely the increasing air passenger travelsduringthe holiday seasons and the number of military training flights. The experimental results for predicting the number of air traffic movement in AdiSutjipto airport are provided by backpropagation models of WEKA Data Mining that offer good prediction. The prediction both for semester period and for annual period has the accuracy of 98.44% in the average. It is found that the prediction for the number of movements in aerodrome control areas is better offered by the annual period model than the semester period model while the prediction for the number of movement in approach control areas is better offered by the semester period model than the annual period model.
