The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Organizational Citizenship Behavior :: A Cross-Cultural study among High School eachers in Indonesia and Philippines

Penilitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan membuktikan hubungan antara hubungan kepuasaan kerja dan organizational citizenship behavior kepada guru SMU di Indonesia dan Filipina. Hipothesis yang diajukan adalah: 1) Ada perbedaan tingkat dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Indonesia dan Filipina; 2a) Ada hubungan positif anatara kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Filipina; 2b) Ada hubungan positif antara kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Indonesia; 3) Hubungan antara kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Indonesia akan lebih kuat daripada hubungan kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Filipina. Subyek penilitian berjumlah 248 guru SMU (baik negeri maupun swasta) di Indonesia dan Filipina. Teknik pengambilan sampling adalah purposive sampling. Sementara, pengujian hipotesis menggunakan t-test for independent samples, regression analysis dan t-test for comparing coefficients across regressions dengan menggunakan software SPSS 11.0. Hasil penilitian menunjukkan bahwa memang ada perbedaan tingkat dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Indonesia dan Filipina maskipun hanya berbeda secara signifikan di dimensi helping; ada hubungan positif anatara kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Filipina tetapi tidak terbukti bahwa ada hubungan positif antara kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Indonesia; dan ternyata hubungan antara kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Indonesia lebih lemah daripada hubungan kepuasan kerja dengan dimensi OCB kepada guru SMU di Filipina.

This aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and OCB among Indonesian and Filipino high school teachers. There were four hypotheses raised in this research: 1) there will be different levels of OCB dimensions among Indonesian and Filipino high school teachers; 2a) Job satisfaction is positively related to OCB dimensions among Filipino high school teachers; 2b) Job satisfaction is positively related to OCB dimensions of Indonesian high school teachers; 3) The relationship between job satisfaction and OCB among Indonesian high school teachers is stronger than among the Filipino high school teachers. The sample of this research consists of 248 government and private high school teachers in major cities in Indonesia and in Philippines. A purposive sampling technique was used in the collection of data. The hypotheses in this research were tested by different analysis tools. First, hypothesis 1 was analyzed by comparing means using independent-sample t-test, while hypothesis 2 was analyzed by regression analyses and hypothesis 3 was analyzed with t-test for comparing coefficients across regression with the aid of SPSS 11.0. The result shows that there is a difference in the level of OCB dimensions among Indonesian and Filipino high school teachers as helping dimension is found to be significantly different while the other three dimensions (courtesy, civic virtue and sportsmanship) are similar among Indonesian and Filipino high school teachers; there is a positive relationship between job satisfaction and OCB among Filip ino high school teachers; there is no positive relationship between job satisfactions and OCB among Indonesian high school teachers; the relationship between job satisfaction and OCB among Indonesian teachers is weaker than the relationship of job satisfaction and OCB among Filipino high school teachers.
