The sector of transportation is the second largest sector after household sector in terms of energy consumption based on Indonesia Energy Outlook 2017. It reach 31% and increses 5.2% every year time frame of 2010-2015. Alongside the purpose to oppress the usage of personal combustion vehicles, altering the public transport systems would impacted the lower energy usage in transportation in general, and lowering the number of pollution caused by conventional transportation vehicles in particular. One of the way to improve the systems is by adopting electric city buses as public transportation. To increase efficiency in a trip, electric buses has a system that able to capture kinetic energy wasted caused by braking called regenerative braking system (RBS). This research conducting analysis of mechanical force worked on the bus and calculating the percentage of potential energy savings by RBS. Based on the variation of routes, three routes were chosen from Trans Jogja to represent the 17 routes available, that is 1B, 3B and 6A and sampled in a normal and rush hour condition. The results from the driving cycles during a normal and rush hour condition in each of 1B, 3B and 6A routes, there are 46, 51, 18 stops; and 77, 95, 29 stops. Forces worked on the bus are 80,144,807 Joule, 11,468,497 Joule, 35,898,857 Joule; and 54,608,837 Joule, 96,980,946 Joule, 32,159,348 Joule. The percentage of potential energy savings by RBS are 17.93%, 19.31%, 18.00%; and 18.34%, 19.75%, 18.19%. While in the simulation of electric bus the percentage of potential energy savings by RBS are 18.53%, 19.94%, 18.73%; and 18.79%, 20.27%, 18.85%.
