Post of Merapi eruption in 2010, Cangkringan Resort, Mount Merapi National Park that was colonized by exotic species of Acacia decurrens. Although undesirable, Acacia decurrens is suspected can improve the physical-chemical properties of soil which indicated by the growth of undergrowth communities, but the composition species was not known yet. In addition, a comparison is needed to determine the differences species composition of undergrowth communities with natural forest and open areas. Therefore, this study aims to determine the species composition and the differences of undergrowth communities on the Acacia decurrens stands, natural forests, and open areas in Cangkringan Resort. There were 7 sampling units of undergrowth communities. In the Acacia decurrens stands and natural forest, 3 sampling units were made for each stand based on low, medium, and high stand density levels. In the open area, there is only 1 sampling unit. The data were collected by making 2 m x 2 m square plot, systematic sampling with random start was used for this research. The number of plots was determined by the Species-Area Curve. The variables of this research were species names and the total of individual per species. Data analysis was done by calculating Relative Density, Relative Frequency, Importance Value Index, and the cluster analysis. The results show that the composition of the undergrowth communities on the Acacia decurrens stands consists of 96 species from 40 families. In the natural forest ,there are 95 species from 43 families, while in the open area there are 59 species from 31 families. Overall, the species composition of undergrowth communities in Acacia decurrens stands, natural forests, and open areas of the Cangkringan Resort consists of 145 species from 50 families. The difference of species composition of undergrowth communities on Acacia decurrens stands, natural forest, and open area at Resort Cangkringan was shown by the formation of 3 clusters with similarity values of 57.85%. Secondary succession process, especially in Acacia decurrens stand, has been improved biodiversity towards restoration of forest ecosystems at Cangkringan Resort.
