Majority of retail transaction is impulsive buying (IB) that is influenced by store layout and display. However, researches were yet touching determination of product display’s decision variables and their magnitudes. This research evaluate IB behavior in modern retail to obtain efficient and effective product display’s decision variables, to determine magnitude of the variables and to develop managerial implications. Evaluation of display profile to IB was done in one of the oldest local retail group in Yogyakarta which was started in 1950. The retail group has 5 supermarket and total 55 category product’s display profile in Check Out Counter (COC) during research. Primary data was taken from interview of 110 random consumer sample after they finished their buying transaction. Meanwhile display data was produced by observation. Data then analyzed with logistic regresion method to determine magnitude of each variables. Random Forest Decision Tree is developed to make prediction of IB easier. Each decision tree is developed as representation of a store. Then, the model was analyzed using behavior theory. The odd ratio value of regression logistic result is showing that display width, SW (1.12) is more influenced then product mix COM (0.77) and height display level from eye level LVL (0.46). Meanwhile, result of Random Forest Decision Tree on LVL1, LVL2, LVL3 and LVL4 in order: 7,8%, 4,32%, 1,21% and 0,94% are showing that the easier a product group is recognized, the higher IB probability will be. IB behavior analysis shows that IB might happen because of alternative selection, overconvidence, and perception of habits. Thus, it is sugessted to display the product closer to eye level and to give product alternative by arranging product mix which will impact the display width.
