Binary cycle can be used to recover heat with low temperatures that are wasted from the main cycle of Geothermal Power Generation to regenerate electrical energy. The selection of working fluid and the design of a heat exchanger for binary cycle is an important factor in designing a binary cycle. In this study the performance of the basic binary cycle or organic Rankine cycle (ORC) will be analyzed. The fluids that used in this analysis are butane, isobutane, pentane and isopentane which will be selected as secondary working fluids. Then a shell and tube heat exchanger is designed. The heat source is obtained from brine from the main cycle of the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant with an enthalpy of 762.9 kJ / kg, 10 bar pressure, a temperature of 179.9 degree celcius and a mass flow rate of 94.89 kg / s. Certain conditions are applied in this analysis. The net output work provided by the binary cycle in this study is expected to reach a capacity of 3 MW. The design of shell and tube heat exchanger using TEMA standards. The results obtained from this study are, the best basic binary cycle performance applied to the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant is given by isopentane which has a thermal efficiency of 0,1835 with 7 bar evaporator pressure, 30 degree celcius condensing temperature and secondary working fluid mass flow rate amounting to 37.06 kg/s. In this research also designed shell and tube heat exchanger type BEU with TEMA standard which has 48 in. inner diameter shell, 30 ft. length, 1.25 in outer diameter tube, BWG 16 and tube number 600 with square pitch arrangement.
