In the eye tracking system, user is required to perform the calibration procedure when using the system for the first time. Calibration is used to estimate position of the user's gaze to be more accurate. The most widely used calibration model is the conventional calibration model (fixation). In this model the user is requested to view 5, 9, or 25 points during the calibration process. However, this calibration model has a low usability because it may cause visual fatigue. In addition, optimal filter use in smooth pursuit eye movements is essential to eliminate the noise that occurs during data recording. This study offers a smooth pursuit-based calibration method. This method uses the type of smooth pursuit eye movement which asked the users to view and follow a stimulus that moves on the screen. To detect the user's eye view, this method uses correlation to determine whether the user's eye follows the movement of objects on the screen. The process of mapping the eye estimation to the screen is using Linear Regression. This study evaluated the usability comparison between the smooth pursuit and conventional (fixation) calibration. This study also compared three filters, namely Moving Average, Gaussian and Kalman to see a more optimal filter in minimizing noise that appears in smooth pursuit eye movements. The results shows that smooth pursuit calibration has better usability with SUS score 74.5 (62.47%) compared with conventional (fixation) calibration with score of SUS 44.7 (37.52)%. Among the three filters compared, the use of Moving Average filter with kernel 15 provides smaller distance error of 36.97 pixels + 10.62 pixels for horizontal eye position and 48.07 pixels + 15.11 pixels for vertical eye position. The proposed smooth pursuit calibration yield a calibration error that does not differ significantly compared with conventional (fixation) calibration (t (2.26) = 0.63, p > 0.05) in the center area of the screen. Thus, smooth pursuit calibration can be used as an alternative to gaze interaction using a stimulus in the center area of the screen.
