Kala Dalam Bahasa Gorontalo dan Bahasa Inggris (Analisis Kontrastif)

Tesis ini membahas tentang sistem kala yang terdapat dalam bahasa Gorontalo dan bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan kala dalam bahasa Gorontalo, (2) mendeskripsikan kala dalam bahasa Inggris, dan (3) mendeskripsikan perbedaan dan persamaan kala dalam bahasa Gorontalo dan bahasa Inggris serta implikasi terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris bagi penutur bahasa Gorontalo. Tesis ini menggunakan teori oleh Comrie yang membagi kala ke dalam tiga kategori yaitu kala absolut, kala relatif dan kala absolut relatif. Di dalam bukunya, Comrie memberikan penjelasan mengenai kala dari sudut pandang bahasa secara universal dan tipologi linguistic yaitu untuk menetapkan variasi pernyataan kala yang ditemukan pada berbagai bahasa di dunia. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis kontrastif. Data bahasa Gorontalo diperoleh melalui informan dan data bahasa Inggris diperoleh melalui buku tatabahasa bahasa Inggris. Pada bagian analisis data, terdapat tiga tahap yang dilalui yaitu (1) deskripsi, (2) jukstaposisi dan (3) perbandingan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa antara sistem kala bahasa Gorontalo dan bahasa Inggris memiliki perbedaan. Perbedaan tersebut berupa pengelompokkan verba berdasarkan ketransitifan yang terdapat dalam bahasa Gorontalo, sedangkan dalam bahasa Inggris tidak terdapat pengelompokkan verba yang demikian.Perbedaan lainnya yaitu penggunaan to be dan auxiliary verbs dalam bahasa Inggris yang cenderung membingungkan penutur bahasa Gorontalo, sebab yang demikian tidak terdapat dalam bahasa Gorontalo begitu pula dengan adanya regular dan irregular verbs dalam bahasa Inggris yang berpengaruh pada kala lampau dan kala perektif akan cenderung menimbulkan kesulitan bagi penutur bahasa Gorontalo.

This study intends to untangle the tense system in Gorontalo language and English. This study has three main goals, namely; (1) to describe the tense system in Gorontalo language, (2) to describe the tense system in English, and (3) to describe the tense differences and similarities in Gorontalo language and English as well as its pedagogical implications of the English learning to Gorontalo language speakers. This study employs the theory by Comrie which divides tense into three categories namely the absolute tense, pure relative tense and absolute relative tense. In his book, Comrie provides an account of tense from the viewpoint of languages universals and linguistic typology, that is, to establish the range of variation that is found across the languages in tense. The method used in this research is contrastive analysis method. The data of Gorontao language are obtained from informants and the data of English are derived from English grammar books. In analyzing the data, three stages of analysis are applied: (1) description, (2) juxtaposition and (3) comparison proper. The result shows that there are differences that emerge in the tense systems of Gorontalo and English. The differences lie in the form of verb grouping based on its transitivity that found in Gorontalo language, whereas in English there is no such verb grouping. Another difference that emerges is the use of to be and auxiliary verbs in English which tend to confuse the speakers of Gorontalo language as well as the use of regular and irregular verbs in English that affect the past and perfect tenses tend to cause difficulties for Gorontalo language speakers, because, in Gorontalo language, there is no such thing as to be or auxiliary verbs as well as regular and irregular verbs
