Diplomasi Komersial Pemerintah Indonesia dalam Mendorong PT. Freeport Indonesia untuk Mengembangkan Smelter di Dalam Negeri

Diberlakukannya UU Minerba No 94 Tahun 2009, membawa pengaruh yang besar bagi para pelaku usaha industri pertambangan. Para pelaku usaha industri pertambangan diharuskan untuk mengolah dan memurnikan produk mineral mereka melalui smelter di dalam negeri, hal ini menyebabkan mau tidak mau seluruh para pelaku usaha industri pertambangan harus memiliki smelter di dalam negeri atau bekerjasama dengan smelter di dalam negeri untuk menampung mineral mereka guna diolah sebelum diekspor. Kebijakan ini berdampak langsung pada PT, Freeport Indonesia yang diharuskan mengembangkan smelter di dalam negeri. Namun hingga saat ini, pengembangan smelter yang dilakukan oleh PT. Freeport Indonesia masih belum tuntas. Maka dari itu, demi mewujudkan kepentingan pemerintah dimana kepentingan ekonomi yang ingin dicapai dari pengembangan smelter tersebut, pemerintah Indonesia melakukan diplomasi komersial kepada PT. Freeport Indonesia guna mendorong penyelesaian pengembangan smelter PT. Freeport Indonesia. Langkah-langkah diplomasi komersial yang dilakukan oleh pemeintah Indonesia meliputi networking and public relations, intelligence, contract negotiator of implementation, dan problem-solving. Hal ini merupakan bentuk dukungan pemerintah Indonesia kepada PT. Freeport Indonesia guna mendorong percepatan pegembangan smelter.

The passage of the Mining Law No. 94 of 2009, exerted great influence for businesses mining industry.
