Balantidium coli and Strongyloides sp. infection is well-known to have impacts on the health of captive and semi-captive orangutans. The aim of this research is to study the infection proportion and mean infection intensity differences of B. coli and Stongyloides sp. in captive and semi-captive orangutans based on age and sex group, in addition to the infection association between the two parasites in orangutans from the Tanjung Puting National Park, Central Kalimantan. The samples were examined in laboratory by employing saturated sugar flotation method. Next, the samples which show positive infection of B. coli and Strongyloides sp. were analyzed utilizing McMaster method to count the number of eggs, larvae, cysts and/or trophozoids. The results showed there was no significant difference of B. coli infection (χ 2 = 0,518; p<0.05) and Strongyloides sp. infection (χ 2 = 0,038; p<0.05) between captive and semi-captive orangutans. The infection proportion and mean infection intensity of B. coli and Strongyloides sp. did not differ between captive females (B. coli : 16,46% and 495,45±24,09; Strongyloides sp. : 43,94% dan 529,63±17,71) and captive males (B. coli : 16,16% and 433,87±22,40; Strongyloides sp. : 44,44% dan 581,52±10,01). The infection proportion and mean infection intensity of B. coli and Strongyloides sp. for semicaptive orangutans were higher in females (B. coli: 24,24% and 1318,75±494,93; Strongyloides sp.: 51,52% and 1394,00±1155.27) than those in males (B. coli: 13,13% and 900,00±707,11; Strongyloides sp.: 33,33% and 1376,92±936,44). Moreover, highest infection proportion and mean infection intensity have been found in young captive orangutans of all age groups (B. coli: 20% and 518,92±19,66; Strongyloides sp. 48,46% and 837,50±137,83). On the other hand, for the semi-captive orangutans, the highest infection proportion and mean infection intensity were discovered in the children group (B. coli : 23,08% and 1383,00±602,77; Strongyloides sp. : 53,85% and 1164,00±417,05). From the Chisquare test results, it has been discovered that there was a strong assosiation between B. coli and Strongyloides sp. infection both in captive and semi-captive orangutans.
