Perpindahan penduduk dari desa ke kota (urbanisasi) memberikan sebuah permasalahan di kawasan perkotaan. Kebanyakan kaum urban bekerja di sektor informal, salah satunya yaitu pedagang kaki lima (PKL). Lokasi PKL yang ada di sepanjang pedestrian di Jalan KH. Ahmad Dahlan mengganggu dan memaksa pejalan kaki menggunakan badan jalan dan menyebabkan lalu-lintas tersendat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi ragam komoditas, bentuk setting fisik dan aktivitas PKL, serta untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor pengaruh setting fisik apa saja yang dimanfaatkan oleh sektor informal (PKL) dalam melakukan aktivitas jual beli di ruang pedestrian, serta untuk mendapatkan arahan desain (design guidelines). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah rasionalistik kualitatif. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan observasi langsung dan dengan metode Place centered map. Materi penelitian adalah elemen-elemen setting fisik ruang jalan dan aktivitas PKL. Bentuk setting fisik PKL dianalisis dengan mendialogkan elemen-elemen setting fisik ruang jalan sehingga diperoleh faktor-faktor pengaruh setting fisik ruang jalan yang menyebabkan PKL melakukan aktivitas di lokasi tersebut. Langkah selanjutnya adalah menentukan arahan rancangan bentuk setting fisik PKL yang sesuai di pedestrian Jalan KH. Ahmad Dahlan. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah: a) ragam komoditas yang dominan adalah makanan, non makanan, dan jasa, b) bentuk setting fisik PKL yang ada di pedestrian di Jalan KH. Ahmad Dahlan dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor setting fisik ruang jalan berupa fungsi bangunan/lahan, setback, pembatas teritori, vegetasi, dan street furniture.Arahan rancangan disusun dengan mempertimbangkan aspek teori, peraturan kota dan kesimpulan penelitian, sehingga arahan desain rancangan dapat diterapkan sesuai kebutuhan kawasan.

The migration of inhabitant from village to city (urbanization) offers a problem in urban areas. Most urbanites work in informal sectors, one of them is street vendors. The location of street vendors which exists along the pedestrian road in KH. Ahmad Dahlan street annoys and forces the pedestrian to use the main road and it makes a problem in traffic. The aim of this research is to identify the variety of commodities, the shape of physical setting and the activities of street vendors, and to know the factors of physical setting impacts which is utilized in buying and selling activities in pedestrian space, and to obtain the design guidelines. The reseach method used is rationalistic qualitative. The observation is done by directly observing and by using place centered map method. The research materials are the elements of physical setting of road space and the activities of street vendors. The shape of physical setting of street vendors is analyzed by connecting the elements of physical setting of road space so it is produced the factors of physical setting impacts of road space that make the street vendors have activities in that location. The next step is to determine the shape of design guidelines of physical setting of street vendors that suitable for pedestrian in KH. Ahmad Dahlan street. The results of analysis are : a) the varieties of commodities which are dominant are food, non food and services, b) the shape of physical setting of street vendors which exists in KH. Ahmad Dahlan street is impacted by the factors of physical setting of road space in the form of the function of buildings/land, setback, territorial divider, vegetation, and street furniture. The design guidelines is arranged by considering the aspect of theory, the conclusion of city so the guidelines of referrals design can be applied based on the needs of region.
