This thesis explores the challenges faced by Bosnian women after the war. Many of them were raped and slaughtered with impunity by Serbs. In addition, there were inappropriate stereotypes about them. Bakira Hasecic is one of the victims, she has witnessed the Bosnia war and decided to be recognized not only as victims but also as autonomous individuals who are capable to take action and demand the change. She realized that reconciliation process should be engendered because men and women experience war differently. That’s why Hasecic organized Association of Women Victims of War, the formal local groups with aims to advocate the raped victims in ICTY and to empower women. What Bakira Hasecic and Bosnian women have done represent the institutionalized individual ideas that affect international trial about rape crime during war, and inspire the other women victims outside Bosnia and Herzegovina.
