Setiap orang diasumsikan termotivasi untuk mencari informasi secara aktif, untuk menghilangkan ketidakpastian dan sebagai dasar pengambilan keputusan. Apakah seseorang masih akan mencari dengan aktif ketika kini informasi tersedia dengan jumlah yang tidak terbayangkan, dengan isi yang sering kali inkonsisten dan tak jarang juga berkontradiksi? Model Pemrosesan Heuristik-Sistematik, Teori Disonansi Kognitif dan Teori Pembenaran Sistem digunakan untuk menjelaskan dinamika psikologis dampak kelebihan informasi-inkonsisten terhadap ketidakpedulian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan desain basic randomized comparing two treatments with a control group. Kelebihan informasi-inkonsisten terbukti dapat menghasilkan ketidakpedulian baik secara langsung maupun secara tidak langsung melalui mediasi pembenaran system.

Information can be found with an unimaginable number, whether in terms of issues, types, formats, media and the sources of the messages. The explosion of information then unfortunately followed by increasing ignorance. This research intended to prove that exposure to overload inconsistent-information will increase system justification and then generate an ignorance. The effects of overload inconsistent information to ignorance explained by Heuristic-Systematic Processing Model, Cognitive Dissonance Theory, and System Justification Theory. This study utilized experimental research method, with basic randomized comparing two treatments and a control design. Overload inconsistent information proven to produce an ignorance either directly or indirectly through the mediating system justification.
